The new Avant 500 side arm flail from Ryetec has been designed to operate in situations where space is limited. The ‘Avant’ arm allows the head to operate behind the tractor and cut grass across the full width of the tractor. This feature also allows the head to cut narrow verges behind the tractors rear wheel, without the tractor being forced across the road and into oncoming traffic. It also allows the head in the vertical position to operate directly behind the tractor wheel, ideal in very narrow lanes with hedges which grow at the road sides.

The key to the Avant’s flexibility is the hydraulically variable second arm. The conventional straight arm is replaced with a parallel arm system which is moved hydraulically from the straight position to either a forward position for improved operator visibility, or a rear position when working in restricted access areas. The arm also acts as the break back security device and the system ensures the head is always parallel to the ground.

The absence of the traditional king post has allowed the Avant’s main frame structure to be redesigned, leaving the space required for the head to work behind the tractor wheel without fouling on the machines chassis.

A large 220 litre oil tank and standard oil cooler means the Avant is capable of operating in any situation without risk of overheating, and a choice of cable, electric or hydraulic proportional controls give the opportunity for operators to have their preferred choice. The Avant 500 adds to Ryetec’s range of professional side arm flails which now offers machines from 5 to 8metres reach with telescopic, forward reach and mid mounted options.
