Filmed at Ryetec HQ, Chris introduces the CS700 Circular Log Saw, a heavy-duty cutting system designed for contractors and professional operators. The “700” refers to the 700-millimetre tungsten carbide-tipped blade, the heart of the machine, capable of handling logs up to 11 inches in diameter.
This model is the PTO-driven version, ideal for use with tractors, but the CS700 is also available in petrol and electric (CS600) configurations. The design prioritises safety and operator comfort while maintaining cutting power and throughput for continuous, high-volume use.
Chris demonstrates the saw’s fully enclosed cutting system, explaining that the blade remains completely covered until a cut is made. As the operator pushes the carriage forward, the guard opens just enough to expose the blade, allowing a precise and safe cut. Once the timber passes through, the guard automatically covers the blade again, preventing accidental contact and ensuring compliance with modern safety standards.
Operation is controlled using a two-handed mechanism for maximum safety. The left hand releases the carriage lock, while the right hand pushes the timber through using a roller handle at hip height. This design keeps both hands and body clear of the cutting area at all times, making it ideal for professional and on-site work environments.
For accurate and repeatable cuts, the CS700 includes an adjustable end stop. Operators can set the desired log length and simply feed timber to the stop before cutting. The system also features pre-marked measurement guides inside the frame (25, 33, 40, and 50 cm) to help gauge remaining timber length when making secondary or shorter cuts.
Power from the tractor PTO is transmitted through an angle drive gearbox and dual V-belt system, which acts as both a safety clutch and shock absorber. If the saw encounters excessive load or needs to be stopped quickly, the belts allow controlled slip while the emergency stop button disengages the clutch and activates the integrated blade brake, safely halting rotation in seconds.
The optional conveyor system transforms the CS700 into a complete firewood production setup, automatically transferring cut logs away from the blade for stacking or bagging. The conveyor attachment saves time and reduces manual handling, making the system suitable for high-output forestry contractors and estate teams processing large volumes of timber.
Chris wraps up the walkthrough by highlighting the saw’s key strengths: rugged construction, easy maintenance, and dependable power transmission. “It’s fast, safe, and built to last,” he explains, “and that’s why professionals across the UK rely on these machines year after year.”
